Abstract: As a serious complication of severe disease, sepsis is often caused by severe injury or infection, and its development is often caused by multiple factors such as systemic inflammatory response, apoptosis and oxidative stress injury. HO-1 is a critical limiting enzyme of hemoglobin degradation, and when the body has been damaged by oxidative stress, HO-1 catalyzes the degradation of oxidized hemoglobin to be decomposed into bilirubin、carbon monoxide and Fe2+.HO-1 protects cells from oxidative damage and inhibits the development of inflammation. HO-1 and its metabolites have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptosis and the endothelial growth of vascular. The article will mainly introduce the protective effect of HO-1 on the damage of the organ in sepsis, and hope to provide a new strategy for the protection of sepsis-related organ damage.
